CJ Marshall and Ed Kuykendoll, two outstanding and experienced head coaches in the Memphis area, will lead the teams in the 22nd Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game presented by Conway Services and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
Marshall, the head coach at Bolton High School, will coach the Blue Team. Kuykendoll, the head coach at Sheffield High School, will coach the Red Team. The All-Star Game will feature the top senior players from Shelby County Schools, municipal schools and private schools in the Memphis area.
The game will be played on Saturday, December 14 at Memphis University School. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm. Tickets cost $10, for kids 6 and under the cost is $5.
“After more than two decades, the All-Star Game has become a tradition and one of the marquee events for local high school players and coaches,” said AutoZone Liberty Bowl Executive Director Steve Ehrhart. “With two experienced head coaches leading the teams, we will continue the tradition of excellence the All-Star Game has created over these many years.”
CJ Marshall was named head coach at Bolton High School in 2019. He took over a program that finished 0-10 the previous season. Since then, Marshall has rebuilt the Bolton team into a winner. In his first season as the Wildcats’ head coach, they had a winning season -- the first in more than 10 years. Marshall has served as an assistant coach in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game the past three years. Bolton is currently 6-1 and #8 in the State Class 3A rankings.
“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game provides a great opportunity to showcase the abundance of talent in the Memphis area,” said Marshall. “It gives the selected senior players one last opportunity to end their high school football careers with a win. It’s a great way to kick off the December events for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.”
Ed Kuykendoll is in his seventh season as a head coach. He was named head coach at Sheffield High School in 2019. Kuykendoll was head coach at Oakhaven High School in 2018 before taking the Sheffield position. He has an overall record of 31-29, including a 26-13 record the last four seasons at Sheffield. Kuykendoll is a three-time Coach of the Year honoree. He has served as an assistant coach in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game the last two years. Sheffield is currently 4-2 and ranked #12 in the Daily Memphian’s Dandy Dozen.
“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game gives the fans an opportunity to see local talent they may not have seen,” said Kuykendoll. “With the great exposure the All-Star Game has created over the past twenty years, there has been an increase in the appreciation and recognition for the amount of excellent overall talent that the Memphis area has at all levels.”
The All-Star teams will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of area head coaches and other football analysts. Each player must have the recommendation of his head coach and will be selected on the basis of his character, on-field achievement and classroom performance.
Player nominations must be submitted to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl by Friday, November 1.
