The 22nd Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game presented by Conway Services and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office will feature the top senior players from Shelby County Schools, municipal schools and private schools in the Memphis area. Each player was selected on the basis of his character, his on and off-field achievements and his classroom performance.

A total of 88 players representing 53 different area high schools were selected for the All-Star Game.

The rosters are highlighted by three 2024 Semi-Finalists for the Tennessee Mr. Football Award: Samuel Iroh (Collierville), Radarious Jackson (Sheffield HS), and Skylan Smith (Covington HS).

Ed Kuykendoll, the head coach at Sheffield High School, will coach the Red Team and Bolton High School head coach Tyler Gold will lead the Blue Team.

“With these two outstanding head coaches leading the teams and the abundance of talent that will be featured in the game, we will continue the tradition of excellence the All-Star Game has established over the past two decades,” said Steve Ehrhart, Executive Director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Marshall and Kuykendoll to Coach Teams in
22nd Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl
High School All-Star Game

Two Coaches Edit Copy

CJ Marshall and Ed Kuykendoll, two outstanding and experienced head coaches in the Memphis area, will lead the teams in the 22nd Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game presented by Conway Services and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.

Marshall, the head coach at Bolton High School, will coach the Blue Team. Kuykendoll, the head coach at Sheffield High School, will coach the Red Team. The All-Star Game will feature the top senior players from Shelby County Schools, municipal schools and private schools in the Memphis area.

The game will be played on Saturday, December 14 at Memphis University School. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm. Tickets cost $10, for kids 6 and under the cost is $5.

“After more than two decades, the All-Star Game has become a tradition and one of the marquee events for local high school players and coaches,” said AutoZone Liberty Bowl Executive Director Steve Ehrhart. “With two experienced head coaches leading the teams, we will continue the tradition of excellence the All-Star Game has created over these many years.”

CJ Marshall was named head coach at Bolton High School in 2019. He took over a program that finished 0-10 the previous season. Since then, Marshall has rebuilt the Bolton team into a winner. In his first season as the Wildcats’ head coach, they had a winning season -- the first in more than 10 years. Marshall has served as an assistant coach in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game the past three years. Bolton is currently 6-1 and #8 in the State Class 3A rankings.

“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game provides a great opportunity to showcase the abundance of talent in the Memphis area,” said Marshall. “It gives the selected senior players one last opportunity to end their high school football careers with a win. It’s a great way to kick off the December events for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.”

Ed Kuykendoll is in his seventh season as a head coach. He was named head coach at Sheffield High School in 2019. Kuykendoll was head coach at Oakhaven High School in 2018 before taking the Sheffield position. He has an overall record of 31-29, including a 26-13 record the last four seasons at Sheffield. Kuykendoll is a three-time Coach of the Year honoree. He has served as an assistant coach in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game the last two years. Sheffield is currently 4-2 and ranked #12 in the Daily Memphian’s Dandy Dozen.

“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game gives the fans an opportunity to see local talent they may not have seen,” said Kuykendoll. “With the great exposure the All-Star Game has created over the past twenty years, there has been an increase in the appreciation and recognition for the amount of excellent overall talent that the Memphis area has at all levels.”

The All-Star teams will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of area head coaches and other football analysts. Each player must have the recommendation of his head coach and will be selected on the basis of his character, on-field achievement and classroom performance.

Player nominations must be submitted to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl by Friday, November 1.

University of Memphis standout defensive lineman Dontari Poe, whose outstanding performance at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine led him to be drafted in the 1st round by the Kansas City Chiefs, played in the 2007 AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game. At the NFL combine, Poe (a product of Wooddale High School) had the highest number of bench press reps of any player (44). He also ran a 4.98 in the 40-yard dash which is quite impressive for a 6’4”, 346 lbs defensive lineman. Poe is one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL and was selected to play in the 2013 & 2014 Pro Bowl games.

O.C. Brown, the focal point of the 2012 Academy Award-winning documentary "Undefeated," participated in the 2009 AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game following a successful prep career at Manassas High School. Brown, who originally signed with Southern Miss, transferred to Austin Peay State University in the spring of 2012.

H.R. Greer, a standout fullback from SBEC, received very little attention from college recruiters before participating in the 2007 AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game. However, his performance in front of college coaches during the all-star game enabled him to earn a full scholarship to play at Ole Miss. Greer capped off his career with by being part of the senior class that helped the Rebels get back to the postseason.

During the 2010 NFL Draft, University of Tennessee standout defensive tackle Dan Williams was selected in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals (26th overall pick). Williams participated in the 2004 AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game after a successful prep career at East High School.

In 2009, University of Kentucky standout defensive lineman Jeremy Jarmon was selected in the third round of the NFL Supplemental Draft by the Washington Redskins. Jarmon, a standout at Houston High School, participated in the 2004 AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game. Jarmon also participated in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl as a key member of a Kentucky team that defeated ECU in the 50th Anniversary game.
